Scope of Work: Executive Director,
Doula Alliance of Arkansas
The Doula Alliance of Arkansas (DA-AR) seeks a dynamic and visionary Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization in advancing access to high-quality doula services through advocacy, systems change, and member engagement. The ED will provide strategic leadership, oversee day-to-day operations, and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to improve maternal health outcomes in Arkansas particularly for women and families disproportionately impacted by maternal morbidity and mortality.
All candidates must be willing to submit to a criminal background check and child maltreatment registry check as a condition of employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Direction
● Implement and advance DA-AR’s mission, vision, and strategic plan.
● Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of the organization.
● Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders.
Organizational Management
● Oversee daily operations and ensure effective management of programs, services, and membership.
● Recruit, manage, and support staff, contractors, and volunteers.
● Provide clear, timely reporting to the Board of Directors and engage in collaborative governance.
Program and Member Engagement
● Support membership recruitment, benefits, and services, including continuing education and doula training initiatives alongside the Director of Operations.
● Facilitate leadership development and capacity building within the doula workforce.
● Elevate member voices in policy discussions and public awareness efforts.
Finance and Fundraising
● Develop and manage the organizational budget in partnership with the Board.
● Ensure compliance with financial, legal, and grant requirements.
● Lead fundraising efforts through grants, sponsorships, and donor engagement.
Advocacy and Policy
● Serve as a key advocate for doulas and maternal health in Arkansas.
● Represent DA-AR in policy discussions and coalitions at local, state, and national levels.
● Advance legislation, state agency rules and regulations, systems change, and cultural acceptance and awareness of doula care.
Board Relations
● Partner with the Board of Directors to set strategic direction and organizational priorities.
● Provide support for board engagement, governance, and leadership development.
● Participate in an annual performance review with the Board of Directors.
Contracts and Compliance
● Review contracts in consultation with legal or professional advisors and make recommendations to the board.
● Oversee the engagement and management of professional contractors as needed.
Travel
● Travel within Arkansas for meetings, events, and community engagement is expected.
● Limited out-of-state travel may be required.
● Approved travel expenses are reimbursable.
Required Qualifications
● Minimum five years of experience in health care, public health, or related field.
● One to two years of experience in a leadership role.
● Demonstrated knowledge of health care policy, finance, or systems change.
● Experience working with or serving on nonprofit boards.
● Strong understanding of the role and impact of doulas in maternal health.
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience in maternal, pediatric, or preconception health.
● Background in nonprofit management and administration.
● Proven track record in advocacy, lobbying, or systems change.
● Leadership experience in a membership-based organization.

Compensation and Benefits
● This is a part-time, exempt employee position.
● Salary is $50,000.00 annually
